Be Aromatic

Project promoter & a little bit of background

Be Aromatic was born from a dream of two young people – Rute, designer and João, agronomist – who merged their life experience and knowledge in a business project. Be Aromatic is a small enterprise created in 2012, dedicated to the production and sale of aromatic, medicinal and herbal plants (dried and fresh) and fresh vegetables produced outdoors, in an irrigated area of 3 hectares, using organic methods. This agricultural exploitation also produces plants in nursery (including ornamental plants), and olive growing. The farm has a total area of 8 ha. Be Aromatic also offers floral design and styling services for weddings, working flowers and aromatics together.

Project

The promoter applied to the LEADER Measure of the Rural Development Programme of the Mainland, under LAG MONTE call for projects to get support to buy a tractor and machinery in order to achieve greater productivity and productive efficiency. Eligible investment was €29.974,48 and public support (EAFDR + National) was €14.987,25.

This project was complementary to a big investment made between 2013 and 2015, regarding the partners’ installation as young farmers. In that year they made considerable investments – preparation of the soil, incorporation of organic matter, plantation, building of the greenhouse and the warehouse, acquisition of a dryer, pond construction and installation of the irrigation system.

Because of the growth of the farm-production and the sale of aromatic plants in the last three years, the promoter felt the need to increase the mechanization of various agricultural tasks.

In 2017 the company had an income of €70,000 euros and it has now 5 full-time employees, including the 2 managing partners.
